Mabira Coffee Farmers Association is a member of NUCAFE established in 2008. It is located in Buikwe District (0.3144° N, 32.9888° E), Nkokonjeru Town Council with 1116 members, 894 men and 222 women in the Mabira forest catchment area to the north, Lake Victoria to the south and the source River Sezibwa which crosses through most of the district flowing northwards to join the River Nile.



This forest (Mabira in Luganda) ecosystem gives the farmers a conducive natural environment to grow coffee which enables them to sustain their lives.


The farmers produce high-quality shade-grown specialty robusta coffee with unique natural characteristics such as the aroma, taste, as well as physical characteristics of the coffee beans.

The 1116 members of the association have undergone a 4C compliance and code of conduct and they are verified.

The association’s activities are managed by a youth farmer called Kizza Isaaya who has received training from NUCAFE in order to manage the affairs of the association and technically backstop farmers in areas such as leadership and governance, marketing, and agronomy.
“As a youth into coffee farming, I want to develop and prosper so that my fellow youths can too engage in coffee production in order to improve their standard of living,” he said. As an association, we are committed to and driven by the passion for improving farmers’ well-being especially to be able to provide for their families the basic necessities like food, water, health services, and education to transform their communities while focusing on their customer satisfaction.

Mabira coffee farmers’ association works with NUCAFE and different partners to empower youth into the coffee value chain by skilling them to reduce unemployment in their communities. The youth are empowered to start up their own businesses along the coffee value chain especially coffee nurseries that do not require a lot of capital and are registered and legalized. Nursery start-ups by the youths farmers have not only contributed to an increase in the overall coffee production in the country but have also contributed to traceability.

Towards an effort to further improve their coffee quality, Mabira CFA has been able to acquire wet processing equipment and a factory. With this factory and equipment in place, farmers are able to wet-process their coffee in order to produce specialty coffee to give more confidence to their buyers that they are committed to coffee quality production.
