Description

Brazil Sul De Minas single-origin coffee is a gem of our Closest Connection project. This exceptional coffee is born in the historic Fazenda Monte Alegre, known throughout Brazil for its innovation and sustainable approach. The estate employs state-of-the-art methods to guarantee traceability and outstanding crop quality.

Fazenda Monte Alegre, located in the South Minas Gerais region (Brazil), with postal address Caixa Postal 62 – Areado – MG – Brazil – CEP 37140-000, is a historic property dedicated to coffee production.

It was already a traditional and well-known coffee-producing fazenda in the region when the Vieira family acquired the property in 1917. Since then, it has been devoted to cultivating coffee, sugar cane, corn, and raising livestock, among other activities.

In 1990, the “Monte Alegre Company” was established to manage and develop the family’s lands; the following year, it became one of the founding members of the BSCA. In 2007, it embraced new concepts and renewed its brand. The focus on specialty coffee production led to the adoption of a new identity: Monte Alegre Coffees. In 2017, Monte Alegre Farm celebrated its 100th anniversary.

The coffee varieties include Bourbon and Peaberry. The main processing methods are Fully Washed, Semi Washed, Pulped Natural, and Natural. The fazenda has its own infrastructure for processing, on-site drying, and shipping.

It follows good agricultural practices to ensure sustainable coffee production. Since its foundation, Monte Alegre has invested in the protection of forests and water resources, using sustainable agricultural technologies to safeguard the environment.
