The Coffee of Peru by Shirley Fiorella Quispe Chávez.

Shirley Fiorella Quispe Chávez has been a coffee farmer for two generations, and her coffee represents the work, effort, and passion of a courageous woman.
Her job is to grow coffee plants, but it’s not easy: she knows she has a goal that can be achieved and this is something that motivates her, so… she tries as hard as she can!
Her family (see photo) is the motivation and the reason to keep going. Her father taught her these values and passed on his “PASSION FOR COFFEE” and for her, the experience of living on the plantation is simply amazing.
When we drink a cup of coffee there is a story behind it that we can’t even imagine: there are those who have harvested the seed, those who have sown it, those who have harvested the cherry, those who have roasted the bean and the whole process is carried out with dedication and passion by everyone. This is something that Shirley knows well and has always taught her children, that what they are doing is the result of the effort and dedication of many so that in the future they too can pass on and share these values with future generations.

Shirley’s family history

Shirley’s family members are at work in front of their home, in Selva Central, bajo Pichanaqui, just below the dizzying Andes.

In 1970 her father moved to the central jungle, in Pichanaki in the Junin Department, with the aim of reaching the impervious peaks of these mountains to be able to plant a coffee bean; it was a very difficult territory to reach because there was no road: to reach the camp you had to proceed on foot, walking for approximately a whole day with a small load of food supplies and taking advantage of the natural medicines that the jungle made available, the knowledge that derives from the Ashánincas culture. It may seem like a very melancholy story, however, despite the adversity they encountered, it turned out to be an exemplary story for their family, it served the children to be able to excel as adults and never give up.
Today Shirley with her family is in the district of PICHANAKI – Province of CHANCHAMAYO, Department of JUNIN – PERU. The town COLONIA HUANCA (AYTE) on the outskirts of the border forest “PUI PUI”, which is a natural area protected by the Administration of SERNANP, which has the task of preserving the forest, with its fauna, flora, and water sources, of reinforcing the system of water regulation, in order to ensure the supply of good quality water.
